Customer Review: Unique, No Other Tool of This Type Has a Mount

Well made, with indexing marks. An extremely light metal, but appears to be very hard. Since I first wrote this review, I've investigated further. The density of the metal measures as 2.44g/cc. According to Wikipedia, aluminum has a density of 2.70g/cc and magnesium 1.738g/cc. So, the "hard" metal would appear to be an Al/Mg alloy with a ratio of 73%Al/23%Mg. (I hope somebody checks my figures. Converting the 2.44g/cc to an Al/Mg ratio made my head hurt.) I found a tiny "8.8" marked on the Allen head screws. That's Metric for a grade 5 bolt. it would be reasonable for the nuts to be equally hard. But I can't make any sense of the markings on the nuts. Be careful not to lose the seemingly simple Allen wrench supplied. The short arm is just long enough to clear the stand as you're tightening down the rotating joints. The long arm, along with speedily turning the Allen bolts, also can be used to stick through the "eye" of the clamping screw for fastening the stand to a bench top.
I'm hoping to find the time to make this into sort of an upside down miniature "table saw" using the circular blade. The idea is to let the blade cut a small distance into a wooden table. Then add an adjustable fence and a guide to push small pieces of plastic or wood past the blade. ThenI can make straight, square cuts in small workpieces. Otherwise, a three inch blade table saw is a couple of hundred dollars and more storage space.
I was able to disassemble the support and store it in the big orange carrying case. BTW, does any machinist out there know if you can get an MT2 that comes out to a block of drillable metal so I could mount this to my table top drill press in place of the Jacob's chuck? [MT2 means Morse Taper #2 which is how parts are mounted to lathes and drill presses.] It would seem from the factory (German) pictures in their catalog that in Europe they make table top presses that match the diameter of the cylindrical rotating joints of their "stand." But in this Country (USA) mounting is done with tapered joints that are wiped clean and then sort of "smacked" together. Or then tapped to take apart.
But the only things I know that have an MT2 on the other end are a "dead center," a "live center," (both for lathe tailstocks) and a Jacob's chuck (drill press or tailstock). <grump> Fein ought to supply an MT2 adapter for use with drill presses Hmm...you would also need to pop the drive belt off and a way to lock the spindle from turning. You could do that with a couple of "C" clamps. I may look for a cheap live center and figure a way to clamp to the non-rotating outside diameter. If anybody buys one of these support stands and figures a way to mount to a drill press, let me know.
